Hair Replacement
Non-Surgical hair replacement generally helps people with hair loss issues with the use of wigs and hair pieces. These products will use a fine lace type of material. These materials are light in weight, breathe-able for less trapped heat and will blend into the skin tone. This can work for any type of hair loss.
For another type of non-surgical hair replacement option there is a procedure called strand-by-strand insertion. This technique uses real hair to make a wig, or many wigs, for the purchaser. The hair is entered, strand by strand, into a cap that looks and matches the purchaser’s skin tone. This hair can be cut and shaped in any desired look.
Semi-permanent hairpieces are adhered to the scalp with the use of liquid adhesives. These hairpieces are meant to stay on the head until a hair stylist removes them for maintenance once every six weeks.
An invisible strand technique is now used for semi-permanent hair placement. The hair extensions are laced, using a floss type thread, throughout the real hair. The floss is removed and a bonding adhesive is used on the extensions that were placed. This is a harmless procedure when it is completed by a qualified hair technician.
Hair extensions applied through bonding is another semi-permanent product that helps hair to look fuller and healthier. Adhesive is used to bond hair pieces already growing from the wearers scalp.
The Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE, hair transplant procedure is a difficult, harder technique than some other methods done today. This method uses a method that is less than 1mm in diameter in extracting hair out of the scalp. This technique is supposed to do away with the need for any type of surgical stitching. FUE hair transplants are perfect for those who are just beginning to see hair loss. It also works for patients who would like to have shorter or shaven hair styles as there are no scars involved. This technique can also be used for moustache or eyebrow replacement.
Hair can be taken from other areas of the patient’s body and then used to transplant to the scalp. This is often referred to as BHT, or body hair transplant. The desired locations for use in hair transplantation can be leg hair, chest hair and arm hair.
Many types of hair transplants will require a surgical procedure. These procedures are typically done in an out-patient basis. Shampooing of the scalp and then a treatment of antibacterial chemicals are applied before the surgeon begins. The surgeon will then take strips of skin from back of the scalp (if this is the area where hair will be harvested from). Hairs are taken out of the strip of skin, with follicle still in-tact, to use in transplanting to the balding area of the scalp.
